What this code means

E21: Motor or drum drive fault

The drum is not turning as the control expects. Belt, motor and board are all on the list, which puts most E21 cases beyond a first DIY attempt.

Worn or slipped drive belt (belt models)
Motor carbon brushes worn (brushed motors)
Motor or tachometer fault

What to check, in order

With the power off, turn the drum by hand: it should rotate smoothly without grinding.
Restart once after unplugging for a minute.
If the drum does not turn in a programme, arrange service.

Safety first. Switch the machine off and unplug it before cleaning filters or moving hoses. Expect water to come out when you open a pump filter; keep a tray and towel ready. If you are not comfortable with any step, stop and call a technician.
